Oil of Four Thieves : Essential Oil Blend
There is a legend from the time of the plagues in Europe that there was a group of four French thieves who were about to loot the homes of plague victims without ever contracting the plague themselves. The story goes that when they were finally apprehended, they traded the recipe of the oil blend they annointed themselves with to lessen their sentence. Obviously, there is no way to know if this is true, but the legend has persisted for hundreds of years, and research has shown that the individual oils so in fact have antimicrobial and healing properties.
I am not making any claims about the efficacy of the oil, but I do know that essential oils are powerful and I have used them for lung infections and fighting illness in my llife before. My research and personal belief shows them to have a variety of healing, antimicrobial and antiviral properties. When I heard about the Corona pandemic I ordered the ingredients for Thieves Oil and mixed up a batch.
I am adding it to my hand soaps and sanitizers and using it in a diffuser several times a day to potentially help the air and things the diffused oils land on to be less likely yo harbor the virus.
The recipe I found for the oil is: Essential Oils of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary.
8 parts Clove (40 drops)
7 parts Lemon (35 drops)
4 parts Cinnamon (20 drops)
3 parts Eucalyptus (15 drops)
2 parts Rosemary (10 drops)
I found many references to this same recipe online, this one in particular I adapted from the one on the Mountain Rose Herbals website. https://blog.mountainroseherbs.com/four-thieves-essential-oil
How I have been using it
Diluting for cleaning: 1 drop to ½ oz water
Add to salt water gargle for sore throat
Add to sanitizing spray with at least 60% isopropyl alcohol. Spray down your mail, goods you bring home from stores. Face mask and gloves after and during town errands, etc.
Mix into hand soap to add antiviral properties
Mix into unscented lotion to wear on the surface of your skin when going out in public
Mix into carrier oil and rub on back of neck, chest and spine to ease congestion and flu symptoms
