Wintercount is a highlight of my year. It is an annual primitive skills gathering that takes place in the Sonoran desert, amongst towering boulders and saguaro cacti. It offers a hands-on interactive learning environment with classes that strive to reconnect people with ancestral ways of making fire, tanning hides, forming metal, weaving baskets, hunting, gathering, and much more.

As of today, March 19, 2020, my spring teaching scheduled is all cancelled due to the important protocols to help arrest the spread of the Corona Virus. It seems likely at this point that this will also be true of my summer European dates. I encourage folks to look into the "Learn to sew Buckskin" Kit in the On-line store to teach yourself at home or to sign up for video skills consulting for support with your projects at home
Sierra Foothills Audobon Spring meeting April 2 2020

I am very excited to be the key note speaker at the spring meeting of the foothills Audobon Society chapter in April 2020. in this one hour presentation I will talking about my experience living off the land by myself just south of the arctic circle in the fall of 2018, and the many ways that birds played into my journey there and how they fed me, both literally and figuratively, during that time.

Willow Basketry April 5 2020

This class will focus on european wicker techniques. Students will learn about harvesting and preparing willow and will make a medium sized round basket. $94, materials and instruction.

Guest Speaker at Earth Week at Purchase College April 21 2020

With a masters degree in Environmental Science and 25 years of study and practice of ancestral lifeways, Woniya bridges the practical hand on skills for long term wilderness survival with a deep understanding of and love for the natural world. Her message is that these skills and knowledge are part of our human heritage and are available to all of us. They are important. They speak to that place inside us that remembers what it feels like to know the world around us intimately, to shape the substance of our lives from the raw materials around us. They remind us what it is to be human and connected to the wild within and around us. Sewing with Brain Tanned Buckskin June 26-28 2020

I am thrilled to have the opportunity to travel to the Netherlands June 2020 to offer this weekend course designed to teach you everything you need to make your own one of a kind buckskin clothing. We will be learning all of the fundamentals of working with buckskin, from how it is made and why it is so special, to designing your own projects, to deciding what seam and stitches to use in them. I will be offering this class as a guest instructor through EXTRA bushcraft.

An international gathering to promote bushcraft, survival, and traditional skills instruction through the open exchange of philosophies, pedagogical methods and dissemination of best practices within the industry.
I will be presenting about making your own gear, and the role of mental attitude in survival situations.
Saskatoon Circle June 17-23 2019
Methow Valley, Washington
Saskatoon Circle is week long experience of classes and workshops with skilled instructors to deepen your "hard skills" like friction fire, hide tanning, basket weaving, wildtending, wild foods, herbal medicine, flintknapping, bushcraft, buckskin sewing, and too many others to list
I will be teaching buckskin sewing and likely more as well
Oregon Country Fair July 12-14 2019
Veneta, Oregon
The Oregon Country Fair creates events and experiences that nourish the spirit, explore living artfully and authentically on earth, and transform culture in magical, joyous and healthy ways.
I will be part of Archaelogy Park, where a crew of ancestral skills instructors and archeologists offer presentations and short workshops throughout the fair. I'll be demonstrating hide tanning and joining in the frivolity that is this wonderful wacky festival
Echoes in Time July 21 – 27, 2019
Monmouth, Oregon
A gathering of past and present place based traditions. Echoes in Time is a week long ancestral skills conference held every July in Oregon's Willamette Valley and the Traditional Territory of the Kalapuya, near Monmouth, Oregon. Our mission is to unite people from different demographics, communities, and backgrounds though the sharing of common traditions of place based ancestral living skills.
